![]() ![]() NAPA Truck King Pins are built for strength and performance, and our range covers popular applications in vehicles weighing from 7.5 to 28 tons. It connects the trailer and fifth-wheel, and it’s a vital part of the truck’s operation. In general, more care must be taken when installing to prevent damage to the bushing. A king pin is an essential part of any semi-truck. However, only reamers can be used if required. They may or may not require fitting depending on the axle manufacturer’s design. The bushing is usually shorter than its bronze counterpart. However, the inside diameter features a low friction acetyl resin polymer surface which is dimpled and grease grooved for better grease distribution than the older nylon designs. These incorporate a steel backing as with the bronze bushings. They are more tolerant of contaminants than nylon and provide considerably longer milage in severe service applications such as refuse and dump vehicles, etc.Ĭomposite bushings are now being utilized in new axle production by most North American axle manufacturers. Very close bushing to pin clearance can be obtained either by honing or reaming. Steel backed bronze (bimetal) has traditionally been the bushing material of choice of many mechanics. Is there anything I should be thinking about other than looking for other worn parts as I take it apart I plan to remove the axle and bring it to a trusted shop for reaming. I did them over 15 years ago, but they are due again. They tend to wear out faster than bronze bushings in severe service applications. 1948 - 1956 F1, F100 & Larger F-Series Trucks - King Pins - My 56 is in need of king pins. They are generally only recommended for vehicles which spend most of their time on-highway. ![]() Nylon (Delrin) bushings provide reduced steering effort and are fast to install since they do not have to be fitted. A satin smooth micro-finish insures minimum steering effort yet retains the ability to hold grease for proper lubrication.īushing Types: Dayton Parts offers the installer three distinct types of bushing materials. All Dayton Parts pins utilize high quality steel and are heat treated for superior strength and long service life. ![]() ![]() It provides the means for the drag link, in connection with the steering arm, to change the lateral movement into turning motion.įeatures and Benefits: Since the king pin is the very heart of the axle assembly, it is mandatory for a replacement part of this nature to be of the highest quality. Now hobos are called trampsĪnyway I am a sucker for a bargain so I bought the king pin set & I THINK kit may have came with bushings but not sure Carpenters listings for king pins implies there are 2 different kinds of spindles for 1971 trucks ( according to serial numbers maybe ) ? I have asked here before but know answer !!! Do you know difference in spindles or any other info I will need ? I will try to see what came in my kit.The king pin serves as the pivot point which attaches the wheel spindle to the axle beam and is considered to be the most critical component of the axle assembly. The reamers were long so they would cut both the top and bottom bushings at the same time.ĭo you have the capability to do that ?Thank-you Hobohilton.I have hopped trains, & stayed some Hiltons. We turned the bushings out in the shop, pressed them in and then used reamers to true up the bore on the bushings. From memory the bushings in the axle wore faster than the king pins. Long ago as an apprentice in a machine shop we rebuilt front axles and steering axles on fork lifts. ![]()
